Description

A comforting dessert featuring ripe bananas in a tender, cake-like base, perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • Vanilla ice cream (optional)
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • Chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • Caramel drizzle (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 baking dish.
  2. Combine sliced bananas, 1 cup of sugar, melted butter, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Allow to sit for about 5 minutes.
  3. Whisk together self-rising flour, 1 cup of whole milk, ½ cup sugar, and ground nutmeg in a separate bowl until just combined.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish without stirring. Spoon the banana mixture evenly over the batter without mixing.
  5. Bake for 45–50 minutes until golden brown and bubbling at the edges.
  6. Let the cobbler rest for about 10 minutes before serving warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

For a more decadent version, add chocolate chips or toasted coconut to the batter.
