Description

A comforting sandwich that combines the rich flavors of a burger and a grilled cheese, featuring seasoned beef patties, melted cheese, and crispy rye bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices rye bread
  • 6 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon real bacon bits
  • 1 teaspoon sweet relish
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese
  • 6 slices provolone cheese

Instructions

  1. Butter the bread: Generously butter one side of each slice of rye bread.
  2. Combine the beef: In a mixing bowl, mix the ground beef, black pepper, sea salt, and onion powder.
  3. Shape the patties: Divide the mixture into three equal sections and shape each into a patty.
  4. Cook the patties: Preheat a nonstick skillet and sear the patties for 2-3 minutes on each side.
  5. Finish cooking: Lower the heat and cook for about 5 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  6. Prepare the sauce: Mix together the mayo, ketchup, bacon bits, relish, and sugar in a small bowl.
  7. Assemble the patty melt: Layer cheese and beef patties between slices of buttered rye bread.
  8. Grill: Cook the sandwiches until the bread is crisp and the cheese melts, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  9. Repeat until all patties are grilled.
  10. Serve: Slice in half and serve immediately.

Notes

You can prepare the beef patties in advance for convenience. Customize toppings as desired.
