Description

Croque Madame Toast Ham Cheese is a delightful breakfast dish featuring layers of ham and cheese topped with a fried egg, perfect for a hearty start to your day.


Ingredients

  • 4 slices of bread
  • 4 slices of ham
  • 4 slices of cheese (Gruyère or Emmental)
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 tablespoon of flour
  • 1 cup of milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a saucepan, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat, add flour, and stir to create a roux.
  3. Gradually whisk in the milk, cooking until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Spread the roux on one side of each slice of bread.
  5. Layer ham and cheese on the unbuttered side of two slices of bread, then top with the other two slices, buttered side out.
  6. Place the sandwiches in a skillet over medium heat and cook until golden brown on both sides.
  7. Transfer the sandwiches to a baking sheet and bake in the oven for 5-10 minutes until the cheese is melted.
  8. In the same skillet, fry the eggs to your liking.
  9. Top each sandwich with a fried egg and serve immediately.
