Description
A luxurious dessert combining rich chocolate and creamy cream cheese, baked into a luscious bread pudding.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf sweet bread (like brioche or challah), torn into 1-inch pieces (about 1 pound)
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk (or almond/oat milk)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 8 ounces cream cheese, chilled and cut into 1/2-inch cubes
- 1 1/2 cups dark chocolate chunks or chips, divided
- Unsalted butter, for greasing the baking dish
Instructions
- Prepare the bread: Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter. Scatter the torn bread pieces evenly in the prepared dish.
- Make the custard: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, and salt until smooth.
- Soak the bread: Pour the custard mixture over the bread and press down gently. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes; for best results, refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight.
- Add the fillings: Gently stir in cream cheese cubes and 1 cup of dark chocolate chunks.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Sprinkle remaining chocolate over the top and bake for 45-55 minutes, until golden brown and center is slightly jiggly.
- Cool and serve: Let it rest for 15-20 minutes before serving warm.
Notes
For best results, use day-old bread and allow the mixture to soak overnight.
