John Wayne Casserole is a hearty and flavorful dish that combines ground beef, beans, and cheese, making it a perfect comfort food for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (10 oz) diced tomatoes with green chilies
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup crushed tortilla chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped onions
  • 1/2 cup sour cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked.
  3. Add the chopped onions and cook until they are translucent.
  4. Stir in the taco seasoning, kidney beans, pinto beans, and diced tomatoes. Mix well and let simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the beef mixture, followed by half of the cheddar cheese and half of the crushed tortilla chips.
  6. Repeat the layers with the remaining beef mixture, cheese, and tortilla chips.
  7. Top with sour cream and bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  8. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
