- ¾ cup buttermilk

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chopped cherries (fresh or frozen)
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour (for topping)
- ¼ cup brown sugar (for topping)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cubed (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a muffin tin.
- Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
- Mix melted butter, buttermilk, egg, and vanilla in another bowl, then combine with the dry ingredients.
- Fold in the chopped cherries gently to avoid mashing them.
- Fill muffin cups about ¾ full with the batter.
- Combine flour, brown sugar, and cold butter in a bowl for the topping, then sprinkle over the muffins.
- Bake for 18-22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool slightly before transferring to a wire rack.

For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free blend.
