Ingredients
Scale
- ¾ cup warm milk (110°F)
- 2¼ tsp active dry yeast
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Blue gel food coloring
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
- ½ cup crushed chocolate sandwich cookies (like Oreos)
- ¼ cup mini chocolate chips
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened (for icing)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- ½ tsp vanilla extract (for icing)
- 2–3 tbsp milk
- ½ cup crushed chocolate cookies & extra mini chocolate chips (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Make the Dough: Start by combining warm milk and active dry yeast in a mixing bowl. Allow the yeast to foam for about 5 minutes. Stir in the sugar, egg, egg yolk, and melted butter until blended. Gradually fold in 2 cups of flour along with salt, mixing gently. Little by little, add the remaining flour until you have a cohesive dough. Fold in the blue gel food coloring, kneading until the color is evenly distributed. Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 to 1½ hours or until it doubles in size.
- Make the Filling: In a medium bowl, mix the softened butter with brown sugar and ground cinnamon until creamy. Fold in the crushed chocolate cookies and mini chocolate chips.
- Roll & Fill: After your dough has risen, punch it down gently. On a floured surface, roll the dough into a large rectangle (14″x9″). Spread the filling evenly, leaving a small border. Roll it up tightly starting from one long side. Slice into 12 equal pieces.
- Second Rise & Bake: Place the cut rolls in a greased 9″x13″ baking dish, cover, and let them rise for another 30–45 minutes. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
- Make the Icing: Beat together softened cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and enough milk until you reach a creamy consistency.
- Assemble & Serve: Drizzle the cream cheese icing over warm rolls and sprinkle additional crushed chocolate cookies and mini chips for garnish. Serve warm.
