- 1 large onion
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Dipping sauce of choice (ranch, spicy mayo, or honey mustard)
Instructions
- Prepare the onion: Remove the skin, cut off about half an inch from the top, and slice into petals without cutting all the way through.
- Whisk the dry ingredients: Combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, and a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Coat the onion in buttermilk, allowing it to soak for a moment.
- Cover the onion in the flour mixture until well-coated.
- Double dip the onion by returning it to buttermilk, then coating with breadcrumbs.
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Air fry the onion for about 15-20 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- Serve with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy!
Notes
Make ahead by preparing the onion up to the battering stage and storing it in the refrigerator for up to 1 hour. Can also be baked at 400°F (200°C) for 25-30 minutes.
