- 1 cup brown sugar

- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan generously.
- Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar until smooth and bubbly, then pour into the prepared pan.
- Arrange the sliced plums on top of the caramel in the pan.
- Whisk together the granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl until smooth and frothy.
- Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in another bowl. Alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the egg mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients.
- Pour the batter over the plums in the pan, spreading it evenly.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert onto a serving plate.
