Description

A comforting and savory dish combining perfectly seared steak with creamy loaded mashed potatoes.


Ingredients

  • Steak (ribeye or sirloin)
  • Russet potatoes
  • Sharp cheddar cheese
  • Cream or milk
  • Butter
  • Thick-cut bacon
  • Fresh chives
  • Salt & pepper
  • Garlic

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Potatoes: Peel and quarter the russet potatoes. Place them in a large pot filled with cold water and season generously with salt. Bring to a boil and cook until fork-tender, roughly 15-20 minutes. Drain well and return to the pot.
  2. Make the Loaded Mashed Potatoes: Add butter to the drained potatoes and melt over low heat. Mash and incorporate cream or milk for a velvety consistency. Fold in cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, and fresh chives. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Prepare the Steak: Heat a cast iron skillet over high heat. Season steak with salt and pepper.
  4. Sear the Steak: Place steak in the skillet and cook undisturbed for 4-5 minutes on each side, checking for doneness (130°F for medium-rare).
  5. Rest the Steak: Remove from heat and cover loosely with foil. Let it rest for about 5 minutes.
  6. Serve Together: Slice the steak and plate it alongside the loaded mashed potatoes, garnishing with extra chives or cheese.

Notes

Use room temperature steak for even cooking. Ensure the potatoes are drained well for the perfect consistency.
